100% Trustworthy

100% Trustworthy

100% Trustworthy
This is what the Lord says: Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord… But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.Jeremiah 17:5,7

People are unpredictable, but our heavenly Father is predictable. A person’s word may not be their bond, but the Lord’s word is dependable. What He says—He does—in His timing. A family member may be fickle—but our precious Savior is always precise in fulfilling His promises. A “friend” may say “I’ll be there for you,” but is nowhere to be found when circumstances crumble—but Jesus never leaves or forsakes us. Confidence in people sets us up for disappointment, but confidence in Christ gives us sufficient grace—100% of the time!

Jeremiah knew firsthand the curse of trusting in himself or others in place of the blessing of trust in the Lord. Just as fish are made for the sea, birds are made for the air and monkeys are made for trees—humans are made for God. Our habitat on earth is with the Lord, and ultimately with Him in heaven. We are not comfortable in our current mortal condition, because we are made for immortality. Our soul groans until it gets to God. We are created for our Creator. The material world cannot satisfy our immaterial spirit. Our heart will feel at home once its home is in heaven.

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods” (Psalm 40:4).

Trust in a person over trust in God impairs our judgment. Our decisions will lack wisdom if we hope in what man might do rather than completely trust in what Christ can do. Discernment comes into focus through eyes of faith. Accurate perceptions are clarified by confidence in Christ. There is an unseen conspiracy in our culture that seeks to pluck out eyes of faith and replace them with blind humanism. Sadly, the godless grope around deceived by untrustworthy idols like intellect, wealth and power. Trust in God leads us to fulfilling destinations blessed by God.

Trust in Christ is fruitful. The more He has of us the more abundant the fruit of the Spirit is evident in our life. A person can have character and not have Christ. But when Christ has a person—they will have character. So, what are the results of our trust in the Lord? Trust in God gives us the courage to continue with God. Trust in Jesus gives us grace to persevere through pain. Trust in the Spirit sees us through. So we trust the One who is 100% trustworthy. We are blessed by God’s peace when we trust Him 100%!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I trust You 100%. Lead me to follow You alone and none other.

Application: How is my trust in God affected by His 100% trustworthiness? What am I facing that requires 100% trust in the Lord?
